Apollo 11 Moon Landing – 50th Anniversary

During the 1960s and ’70s, space flight was a new frontier. Our Moon quickly became an object of interest for space explorers, and missions to learn more about the planet became a reality. During this time, NASA started the Apollo Program. This program resulted in many groundbreaking first for space travel. Most importantly, these missions resulted in American astronauts’ landing and walking on the moon for the first time. July 20, 2019, is the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11’s moon landing and the day humans first walked on another planet. The historic crew of Apollo 11 was Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin. Armstrong and Aldrin walked on the moon while Collins stayed in orbit around the moon in the Command Module. Upon taking the first human steps on the moon, Neil Armstrong exclaimed the now famous phrase, “That’s one small step for (a) man; one giant leap for mankind.”.

Saturday Iowa FLL Championship: Delayed by 1 Hour

Due to the impending weather and timings of the heaviest snowfalls, we have decided to delay the event by one hour to allow for more time for your travel and snow removal. We have also decided to eliminate the Coaches Meeting in order to compress the schedule and adjust the time when teams need to check in for the event.

The new schedule is posted on the Saturday Championship page. We sent out this information update, as well as promote via social media. However, please alert your spectators, parents and other interested individuals.

Notable changes in the event day:

Team Check in will occur beginning at 9:15a. No teams should plan to arrive on site before then. To reiterate, there will be no meeting for coaches. Instead, we ask that you watch this short video recording, which is everything we planned to cover at the meeting.

Listen to Coach Meeting now before attending the event:  https://iastate.box.com/s/4y4d8mz4rxw7sdgn3a37h73dsbgfhgi4

We have shaved off some time over the lunch and time for us to re-set Howe Hall for Closing Ceremonies. This allows us to end the event nearly at the same time as previously communicated and get your teams back home as early as possible.

If you are also a GIA team, we will be editing the schedule slightly to ensure no conflicts and getting it out under separate cover.

If you have further questions about the event, email them to fll@iastate.edu.

Thanks for all your efforts and flexibility – safe travels,
